Oral, Dental, and Maxillofacial Surgery

The wisdom teeth in our jaws are one of the largest molars and sometimes they cannot properly erupt from the gum.

Even it erupts in the mouth, it is the most difficult area to clean since the wisdom teeth are at the back and most of the time decays are encountered. The semi-erupted wisdom teeth, which appear partially in the mouth, are the most common problematic wisdom teeth. In this case, foods trap and accumulate in the hooded gum covering some part of the tooth and as a result, it causes infection.

The infection in this region leads to swelling, severe pain spreading from the ear to the neck, enlargement of the lymph nodes, limitation of mouth opening and difficulty in swallowing. Fully impacted wisdom teeth may cause tooth decay by compressing the neighboring tooth and they may create slippage and perplexity in the other teeth. When such situations are considered and in the presence of the above-mentioned problems, it is appropriate to extract the wisdom tooth.

What should be considered after tooth extraction?
  • Eating and drinking should not be made for 2 hours after the tooth extraction.
  • The stype put by the doctor should be bitten for half an hour and then discarded.
  • Spitting and rinsing should not be made during the first 24 hours following the tooth extraction.
  • Warm and granular foods should be consumed for 2-3 days after the tooth extraction.
  • Smoking and consuming alcohol are forbidden for at least 24 hours after the tooth extraction.
  • The tooth extraction wound should be kept clean and care should be taken not to fill any food residue.
  • The wound region should be carefully brushed for 24 hours after the extraction.
Root tip surgery - Apical Resection

Apical resection is the process of removing infected tissue at the root tip. It is made in the cases where the infection or cyst treatment around the root tip of the tooth is made although the root channel treatment is not healed. The root tip surgery is an operation that takes about 30 minutes under local anesthesia.

Sinus Lifting

Bone resorptions occur both horizontally and vertically in the jawbones after tooth extraction. The sinus cavity is a structure surrounded by a membrane located in the upper jawbone. This structure causes a vertical loss in the jawbone by hanging down depending on the tooth extraction.

Insufficient bone distance may not be found for the implant as a result of this loss. In this case, the sinus membrane is lifted upward and the remaining area is filled with real bone meal (graft) so that there is sufficient bone distance for the implant.

May implant be performed in the same session with Sinus Lifting Operation?

If the amount of current bone is sufficient to stay fixed for the implant to be applied, the implant can be made at the same time, but in some advanced bone loss cases, 6 months are waited after the sinus lift operation and then the implant can be made.
