Orthodontic Treatment

The formation of the dental belt or dental arch begins with the eruption of the first tooth and this arch/belt will determine the function of the tooth as well as the laugh of the child.

In addition to the dental arch, the dental supports also occur during the same period. Due to the various forces in the mouth, there may be changes in the direction, in which the tooth will emerge and develop, and consequently, problems in the jaw functionality may occur.

Orthodontic is the branch of dentistry that is responsible for the regular formation of teeth and dental supports.

Correction of Teeth Formation with Braces

For the children that are in need of brace treatment, the first visit to the dentist is recommended in 7 years old. This age is the ideal age for an orthodontist visit and plays a major role in determining the necessary treatments based on the condition of the child's tooth. If your child has some of the following symptoms, you should consult with an orthodontist;

  • Finger suction
  • Continuous breathing from mouth
  • Early tooth loss
  • Excessive or missing teeth conditions
  • Overlapping of teeth
  • Cross closing
  • Being far ahead of upper jaw teeth than lower jaw teeth
  • Gaps between teeth

Depending on the age and treatment needed, the orthodontist will decide the type of braces to be used in the treatment. Many types of braces are available, these are as follows;

Movable braces

They help correct the upper and lower jaw relationship. They are made of plastic with a brace holder and should be worn for about 14-16 hours per day. It is only used in the children especially during adolescence.

Fixed braces

It consists of braces, brackets, and ligatures. The brackets may be made of metal, ceramic or plastic, and these brackets may only be removed by an orthodontist.
